Project description

We want to help our client to support an e-commerce platform built on Intershop and hosted on Linux servers. The application is compiled (no source code available), and maintenance has historically been handled by a third-party vendor. The vendor developed obfuscated Linux shell scripts (.sh) to automate these tasks. Documentation exists (Wiki) explaining their use, but the scripts must be executed manually in production, posing security and operational risks. There is no GUI or secure orchestration layer—just direct command-line execution.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Fluent English (Upper-intermediate and above);
  • Willingness to work under a short-term contract;
  • Ready to work according to Paris time.

Responsibilities

  • Execution of Linux automation scripts (service/VM restarts, removal of blocking database records, WAF actions (IP whitelist/block), supervision and analysis);
  • Incident resolution for cases not covered by automation;
  • Maintenance and likely redevelopment of the current automation tools, creating a proper script launcher/tool;
  • Technical documentation;
  • Integration of a Disaster Recovery Plan (PRA/PCA).

 

Challenges

  • Take over script execution for incident resolution;
  • Secure the environment—reduce reliance on manual production access;
  • Improve/maintain automation—likely reverse-engineer or rewrite existing scripts;
  • Collaborate with other teams (cloud/Intershop specialists) for deeper fixes;
  • Collaborate with microsoft engineer for Azure-related tasks;
  • Document processes and implement a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP).

  • A competitive salary, payment is according to hourly rate; 
    Short-term contract (2-3 months with 100% workload, then - part-time).
